The very first kitten adopted, and his happy new owner, at the KittyPalooza adoption weekend!
The KittyPalooza 2010 Kick-off Party held at the Mean-Eyed Cat Bar was a huge success!  Despite the fact that this was not a fundraiser, throughout the evening party goers helped Friends of Town Lake Animal Center raise over $1,000 for the KittyKits that were given to the first 100 adopters.  The KittyKits, provided by Friends of Town Lake Animal Center, featured kitty care items like catnip toys, laser pointer toys, brushes, cat treats, and cat bowls.  Friends of TLAC bought the drinks and party guests enjoyed delicious pizzas generously provided by Spartan Pizza, and chips and salsa donated by El Arroyo.  Inside, the guests were able to chat and relax while watching a slide show compiled by FoTLAC volunteers of some of the adorable shelter cats available for adoption, while outside some super-cute foster kittens (available for adoption at KittyPalooza--all were happily adopted!) entertained everyone that stopped by.

We'd like to give particular thanks to Chris Marsh, owner of the Mean-Eyed Cat Bar on West 5th Street, for generously donating the use of his business space to host the first KittyPalooza Kick-off Party!  We look forward to seeing everyone back there in the future!

We'd also like to thank Marley Diehl for designing and donating the fabulous new KittyPalooza logo!

Thanks to everyone who helped make the 2009 Hangtown Grill fundraiser a success!  Once again, Hangtown Grill donated a portion of all sales from our evening to Friends of Town Lake Animal Center, while customers and party-goers made donations over and above their meal purchases.   And we especially thank everyone who came to the restaurant despite the extreme heat - it was 105° that day!

This year's fundraiser was held at Hangtown Grill's new, second location on Burnet Road.  Friends of TLAC volunteer Jane Gordon's band, Made in the Shade, provided live music, while guests ate, wandered through the silent auction, studied the plans for the new shelter, and listened for their name to be called as a door prize winner.

Some of the highlights of the 2009 Hangtown Grill fundraiser, aside from the fantastic food, included our bigger-than-ever silent auction and numerous door prizes!  Auction items ranged from a Doga book and Yoga-Yoga class vouchers to a couch donated by Lack's!  One particularly coveted (and very cute!) item was a Pug-themed Movie Night basket donated by a very generous and talented Pug owner. The bidding was heated, but in the end all the participants left in good spirits.
With your help, we raised close to $2,000 in just a few hours!

Update (2010):  Unfortunately, Hangtown's Burnet Road location is no longer open.  However, the original location in West Lake Hills is still in business.  Please join us in continuing to support this good friend of Friends of TLAC.

Volunteer and FoTLAC Treasurer, Carolyn, cheerfully greets guests as they arrive.
A new, colorful information board provided guests with the opportunity to learn more about FoTLAC.
Front table with new member sign-up sheets greeted guests at the door.

Guests eagerly bid on auction items and look at groundplans for the new shelter site.

Kirk
A furry big thanks to everyone for making both our 2008 "What's in My Dog?" raffle and our holiday party at Kirk wonderful!

Special thanks to Jeff Kirk, the owner of Kirk, for lending us his fabulous furniture store/gallery for the party, and to Mangia Pizza for supplying the delicious wraps and that addictive dip! Also, thanks to Dorinda Pulliam, Director of TLAC, for coming to the party directly from a city council meeting!

Congratulations to Melissa Lesniak and Chris Morris, winners of the Canine Heritage XL Breed tests - we'll post their stories later - and congratulations to all the door prize winners.

If you didn't happen to win a DNA test kit, you can order one by clicking on the banner on our "Fundraiser" page. A portion of the sales price is donated back to Friends of TLAC!

Update (2010):  We are sad to inform you that our generously donated venue, Kirk, is no longer in business.

August 7, 2008

We had a fabulously fun time at our Hangtown Grill fundraiser on Thursday, August 7, 2008, in the Village at Westlake.  Jane Gordon's band "Made in the Shade" provided music on the patio while patrons enjoyed the delicious dinners available at Hangtown Grill.  Bidding was heated on silent auction items, and winners of the door prizes were thrilled.

The twenty or so canine patrons that came by with their people for dinner got treats and toys- and there were even party favors for cats!

Thanks to the many generous donors who helped make the evening a success, including:  Fetch!, Groovy Dog Bakery, Tomlinson's, Texas Honey Ham, Serrano's, Green Mesquite BBQ, Cannoli Joe's, Melissa Gaskill, Richmond International (Kenko Pet Bed), Fast Frame, Gypsy River Trading Company, Austin Cotton, Petland, Breed and Co., Amy's Ice Cream, HEB, Christine Harris, and Hangtown Grill.

A special helper draws one of the winning tickets
Our very successful holiday 2007 fundraiser was the "What's in My Dog?" raffle.  Thanks to the generous donation of two dog DNA test kits by MMI Genomics, two lucky winners will now be able to find out what breeds make up their mutts.  The drawing was held at the Friends of TLAC holiday party.
